Wild Bird Info
There are groups and foundations in place for
habitat conservation and education for the continuing survival of our
incredible native and wild birds. We at “For NorthWest Birds” believe that
this task of well bird education to be left to the people who are most
experienced. We will try to keep the events and links of these groups on our
website to help them accomplish their important goals.
“For NW Birds” would like to assist in the proper care of injured or sick
wild adult birds and/or displaced or abandoned baby birds.
“Bird Lover’s Outlet”, a north Spokane business, has graciously volunteered
to answer wild bird questions and dispatch experienced volunteers to assist
with sick, injured or abandoned birds in our area. They can be reached
everyday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Displaced baby birds are by far the most common
wild bird problem in the spring and summer. Despite popular belief, baby
birds are not abandoned by their parents if you handle them. If you can see
and reach the nest, try putting the youngster back into the nest for the
parents to take care of. The parents do a much better job than we can to
feed an ever-hungry chick! If the nest has fallen from a tree, put the nest
with the baby birds in the highest branch you can reach in the tree.
Sometimes, the nest cannot be secured into place. In that case, you can make
a nest from cloth scraps etc. in a small basket or clay pot and secure the
nest in place with twine or some such. Observe the nest, be assured that the
parents have found their babies again. If the parents do not return, the
chicks must be taken to a wildlife rescue. Due to the laws of the Washington
State Department of Fish and Wildlife and U.S. Endangered Species Act, it
may be illegal to care for or rescue a bird yourself without special
guidance from an authorized veterinarian. The local contacts are as
